Hosting

For our clients who do not have their own web space or would rather not install ProofBuddy onto their own server we now offer a hosted option.

With the hosted option you will have 1 gigabyte of storage space to keep your images, enough for around 50,000 images.  You will also always have the latest version of the Professional version of ProofBuddy.  We also take care of installation so all you have to do is sign up, upload your images, and start showing proofs to your clients.

Hosting starts at $24.95 billed monthly or $209.95 yearly.

  1. Hello,
I am upgrading my website soon and want to add a proof gallery, I have read about your product on a forum I frequent (ProPS) and have a few questions,
I am currently using Imagequix and dislike having to pay for every upload and find the navigation and image display and upload to be very frustrating.

I am planning to be shooting a lot of soccer teams this season and hope to be able to place each team online for additional sales... I currently just choose the best image and print...

Can your product be integrated onto my website? What is the uploading process? Usually I have my "WEB GAL" make changes to my main pages. Would I be able to access the proof pages? My website is hosted by West host.
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Mary

  2. ProofBuddy can be integrated into almost any site. The original reason I wrote ProofBuddy was because I was unable to find a solution that I could easily modify to match my site and I assumed that others would be in the same boat. You can make your ProofBuddy match almost any site by editing a set of theme files. Take a look at the Screen Shots section to see a few examples of customized themes.

You have two options for using ProofBuddy.

You can have us host it for a monthly fee which is an option that works well if you do not have webspace or are unable to install ProofBuddy on your webspace. Most clients that go this route either have low priced hosting that does not support PHP and MySQL or are using a hosted blog platform as their site.

The other option, and the one that it seems that you would be interested in, is to download ProofBuddy and install it on your server. In that case you will have ProofBuddy running at the same domain as your main site. The downloaded file is the Lite version of ProofBuddy which you can run on your site for as long as you'd like for free. The Pro version is a paid upgrade, and it does sound like one you would need with the number of images that I would assume shooting soccer teams would be. What I would suggest is to download and install the Lite version and make sure it works for you.

And there are also two options for uploading. The first is to use a series of fields on the add images page where you can upload up to 10 files at a time. The other option is to FTP files to your webspace and then import that way, a method that's much faster and more stable if you're dealing with a lot of images.

  3. I am interested in knowing if you have had experience with using Proof Buddy on a BluDomaind site? Is it possible or would I need to Host with Proof Buddy?

  4. Jenny - I don't know of anyone using ProofBuddy on Blu Domain hosting. Do they support PHP and MySQL databases? If they do, there's a pretty decent chance it would work. I would say you download the Lite version and give it a try.

  5. I am wondering how I would find out if my blu site supports PHP and MySQL. I really love this product, my girlfriend uses it, but I have a blu domain site. If so, how do I go about downloading it? Any info would be great! Thanks.
    Cheers,
    Missy

    • We've done several installs on BluDomain servers and they worked fine. The permission issues are something that happens on every server and is relatively easy to clear up with an FTP program like FileZilla.

  6. It did not work on my BluDomain site. I got some sort of permissions error.

  7. Would I need to use a different web address to access Proof Buddy if you host it?
Can I add a link in one of the pages in my existing site?

    • That's correct. Hosted accounts are typically yourcompany.proofbuddy.com, although depending on how much control you have over the name servers that hold your domain names you may be able to use something like proofs.yourdomain.com. It's also possible to register an additional domain like ErnestsProofs.com and have it point directly to your ProofBuddy site.

So the answer would be yes, you would just add a link from your existing site.

  8. Can you install this on a self hosted wordpress blog?

    • Shouldn't be a problem. We usually use WordPress as a guidepost as to whether ProofBuddy would work since pretty much every host knows whether WordPress works on their servers.

  9. I Was Curious Does Proof Buddy Work on Go-daddy and Blue-host???
I have Different Sites ON Each Host and want to try to add Proof Buddy!!!1

    • Works without a hitch on GoDaddy Linux accounts. We've done dozens of installs on GoDaddy servers, to say nothing of the users that installed themselves. And we've done a few installs on Bluehost. It'll work, but their servers appear to be overloaded. I tend to notice very slow server responses when doing installs on Blue.

  10. If I choose to have you host it and I want it to be billed monthly, do I have a contract or can I just cancel the payments if I decide to go a different route?

Also, would i just be paying the $24.95 a month or are there other fees involved when you host it?

    • Sent you an email earlier today. In case you come here first, or someone else has the same question...

It's month-to-month. No contract. But it is cheaper per month if you go with the annual billing. With our hosted option you'll have the latest version of ProofBuddy Pro. And no, there aren't any other fees aside from the monthly (or annual) bill.

  11. Have you heard of anyone using squarespace to host??

Michael Drake on June 15, 2010 at 12:19 pm
    • Honestly haven't ever heard of squarespace. Generally if a host uses Linux and supports WordPress then ProofBuddy wlll work.

  12. I am wondering if this will work on a website that I created through WIX?

    • Unless they've changed something recently, no ProofBuddy doesn't work on WIX servers. We do have several WIX clients that host their ProofBuddy sites on our servers though. If you click on the hosting link on the right side of the page there's more information.

  13. I'm very interested in possibly switching my hosting over to you. I'm with portfoliositez right now. While I'm happy with them, I don't like their proofing gallery. If I switched my hosting, does the monthly/yearly fee(whichever way I choose to pay) include the pro version of your proofing gallery, or is there also the $149.00 fee to pay to have the pro version. So I guess I'm asking if the pro version is included in the hosting fee, or is it on top of the hosting fee? Also, I read that you can only upload 10 pics at a time into the galleries? is that right or is it possible to upload lots more than that at a time? Thank you :)

    • Yes, the monthly fee does include the Pro version. The $149.95 is only if you want to install the Pro version on your server.

The 10 file limit is if you upload through your browser. There is also an option to upload with an FTP program like FileZilla and import from there. And any of those 10 files can also be zips containing jpgs.

One catch is that our hosting is for ProofBuddy, not for your main site. So you would likely still need an account with another host like PortfolioSitez for your primary site. It's easy to link between the two though.

  14. I read that the total amount was around 50,000 images. I can't remember the GB size though. I'm only a photographer, not a computer techie. My question is about the file limit and uploading.

    1. Is it better for me to websize the images first or do you all automatically do that?

    2. I'm assuming you don't have a way of watermarking or protecting the files? Is this something I have to do first?

    3. I know that the 10 file limit is if you upload through your browser, and that there is also an option to upload with an FTP program like FileZilla and import from there. And any of those 10 files can also be zips containing jpgs, BUT do you have instructions on how to do this? I haven't worked with zips much and I have NO idea what a FTP program is. Like I said.... NOT a techie by any stretch!

    Thanks!

    • It's 1gb which is more than enough for a majority of our hosting clients. We've got a few that have been bumped up a bit, but that's the exception.

1 - ProofBuddy will resize when uploading, but it's generally better to do it on your end. It's typically faster to do it on your end because you'll have a computer dedicated to doing nothing aside from resizing images where our servers are busy doing other things as well. It'll also cut down on your transfer time since you'll only be uploading small images. And programs like Photoshop or Elements give you a lot more control over how the image looks downsampled.

2 - The Pro version does let you upload a watermark. Typically a PNG file it's overlaid the image during upload.

3 - FTP is one of those things that sounds way harder than it is. With the right program it's just like copying files between folders on your computer. If you'll type "bulk" into the search box on the top of this page it'll bring up a page on how to upload more than 10 at a time.

  15. Hello! I have been using Proof Buddy for years and its past time to upgrade. There are still several bugs that aren't allowing check out and my clients are getting error messages. I realize I just need an updates version. What do I need to do?

    Thanks!!

  16. My brother recommended I might like this web site. He was entirely right. This post actually made my day. You can not consider just how much time I had spent for this info! Thanks!
