One of the issues we've come up against with plugins is that if there are too many that create new menu items the tabs run out of room. So we're going to a design where the tabs go down the left side instead. That way there's as much room as is needed for the tabs.
This is also going to widen the page. The admin pages were originally put at 768px wide because when ProofBuddy was started in 2005 I wanted to make sure that it would look okay on an 800x600 screen. It's 6 years later and most monitors are at least 1024x768 so bumping up the width won't affect most people.
And the obligatory screen shot...

Still playing around a bit with the CSS so it may not look exactly like this when we're done with it.

PRETTY! Will this be for both the pro and lite versions?
Yes, that's the plan. Needed the menus to go vertical so plugins had more room to do their thing.
Whats the status of the new admin look?
The new look is a very minor part of the 2.1 version that we're currently working on. Many of the changes to 2.1 will be under the hood and not visible, but it will give more power to the plugin and theming systems.
What that means though is that it's not a quick turnaround and is still a bit off.
